Grocery Clerk

About the role

As a Grocery Clerk at Fresh Thyme Market, you’ll keep store grocery shelves stocked and clean during business hours, assist customers with a friendly, energetic demeanor, and maintain adherence to all procedural guidelines set by the Grocery Department.

Responsibilities

• Ensure cleanliness of grocery shelves, storage area, and work area for safety, including cleaning shelves, products, floors, and removing hazardous debris.
• Stock grocery shelves, including product presentation, facing, filling, organization, and ensuring tag and pricing accuracy according to Grocery Department schematics.
• Examine product rotation, discarding expired or spoiled items.
• Assist customers with purchases, information, and product selection, including selling and cross-selling products.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality.
• Monitor point-of-purchase signs, recipe cards, product coupons, promotional materials, and information on complementary foods.
• Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Use knowledge of scales and weight measures to accurately weigh and label products.
• Cut and stack cases for building grocery displays, and price and mark merchandise.
• Participate in pre-inventory preparation, including back stock and ensuring tags match products.
• Maintain a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
• Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency degree.
• 1–2 years of grocery retail experience in Grocery department processes and procedures (preferred).
• Previous experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
• Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times.
• Ability to adapt to a high-volume retail environment while working in a cross-functional team.
• Capacity to take initiative when problems arise.
• Flexibility to adapt in a variety of situations.
• Advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with peers and senior management.

Pay

This position starts between $15.00 and $16.50 per hour. The actual rate offered will meet or surpass the legal wage requirement for the job's location.
