About the Role
Under direct supervision of the Grocery Manager, the Grocery Clerk will provide friendly, courteous, and helpful service. This position involves assisting customers, cleaning display cases and shelves, and maintaining self-serve displays. The role requires working a variety of hours, including nights and weekends, and performing physical tasks such as heavy lifting, bending, and stooping for long periods.
The working environment is typical for a fast-paced grocery store, with essential functions including physical requirements like lifting, standing, walking, and kneeling, as well as visual and auditory demands.
Responsibilities
- Assist customers with inquiries and provide helpful service
- Clean display cases and shelves
- Fill, rotate, and maintain self-serve displays
- Perform heavy lifting (regularly up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 45 pounds, occasionally up to 60 pounds)
- Work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
Requirements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
- Basic PC/Outlook skills (preferred)
- Retail Management Certificate (preferred)
