Job Summary
Responsible for operating one or more chipping, grinding, and cutting equipment to remove undesirable projections or excess metal from sand castings. Supports the direct labor operations of the Foundry Department by performing grinding, cutting, finishing, and related tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Operate band saws, abrasive saws, sand grinders, belt grinders, and portable pneumatic grinding tools.
- Use a variety of hand tools and other foundry equipment as required.
- Operate and/or load the blast cleaning machine.
- Inspect and measure castings or workpieces to ensure they meet specifications.
- Read and interpret basic sketches, instructions, or blueprints to determine grinding procedures.
- Grind, sand, or polish metal castings to achieve required finishes.
- Report production quantities and items completed for each work order.
- Perform basic maintenance, including cleaning and lubricating machine parts.
- Dress grinding wheels and finish surfaces as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment.
- Maintain safe operations by following all safety procedures, regulations, and PPE requirements.
- Perform any and all other job-related tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in grinding, metal finishing, foundry, manufacturing, production, or an industrial environment preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be able and willing to work overtime and weekends as needed to meet production schedules.
- Excellent hand–eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Able to perform accurate measurements and basic arithmetic.
- Able to work seasonal shift hours and on different shifts according to production demand.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical labor in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Able to follow instructions, read work orders, and maintain production records.
- Able to work in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be able to understand and comply with all job requirements, company policies, safety rules, and required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Must be able to adapt to changing production schedules, seasonal work hours, department assignments, and business needs.

Working Conditions
Employees will work in a noisy environment and may be frequently exposed to fumes and airborne particles. The role requires working near moving mechanical parts and operating heavy equipment and tools. Grinding and foundry assignments are industrial and physically demanding, involving repetitive tasks that may be performed under varying weather conditions.
Personal Protective Equipment and Safety
- Employees must wear approved Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, including safety glasses, a respirator, hearing protection, and steel-toed (steel or composite toe) shoes.
