Grid Modernization Specialist | Travel Required

This position is open to candidates residing anywhere in the US and requires approximately 50% travel to client locations across North America. Multiple openings are available in the following areas of expertise: OMS Lead, Network Model Engineer, Utility Integration Lead, and Solution Architect.

About the role

The Grid Modernization Specialist provides subject matter expertise for systems supporting electric system operations, spanning the full project lifecycle from analysis and requirements definition through configuration, integration, testing, deployment, and post-go-live support. Specialists review and consult with clients on current job responsibilities, performance, and processes, developing recommendations to improve performance through customized technical, operational, and training solutions. The role involves both advisory and hands-on implementation, offering operations technology and GIS expertise alongside business process and industry domain knowledge to deliver successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Advisory/Consulting
  • Partner with clients as a trusted advisor, providing industry domain experience to execute advisory and implementation projects, including:
    • Business case development
    • Strategic roadmap creation
    • Program management
    • Technology assessment
    • Use case creation and requirements gathering
    • Test case development and execution
    • Control room application development and deployment
    • System configuration, data migration, and integration support
    • Go-live planning, cutover coordination, and post-deployment support
    • Vendor coordination and solution validation
  • Develop role-based job/task analysis deliverables and implementation readiness assessments for operations technology and GIS job positions.
  • Provide industry expertise for creating future-state "To Be" business processes and deriving associated business outcomes.
  • Perform and manage technical project work across the implementation lifecycle, including system design, configuration, integration testing, user acceptance testing, and deployment for grid modernization initiatives.
  • Evaluate training and enablement content to ensure end-user readiness for new or upgraded systems, including maintenance of training databases and tracking end-user performance.
  • Maintain an understanding of advancements in technology and industry innovations in digitalization, analytics, security, markets, and operational technology within the electric grid marketspace.
• Business Process
  • Provide leadership and support for complex business transformation programs.
  • Evaluate existing processes, analyze implemented changes, and recommend adjustments to workflows, schedules, or other processes as needed.
  • Lead multi-level client interviews and facilitate engagement across project stakeholders to gather information and build support plans.
  • Deliver lectures, group discussions, practice activities, and assessments in support of course objectives.
• Project Implementation
  • Lead or support the configuration and deployment of operations technology platforms (EMS, SCADA, ADMS, OMS, DMS) and GIS solutions in client environments.
  • Develop and execute integration test plans and user acceptance test scripts, coordinating defect resolution with vendors and client technical teams.
  • Support data migration, model validation, and system integration activities, including network model builds, CIM data exchanges, and interface configuration.
  • Participate in go-live cutover planning and execution, including readiness assessments, parallel operations support, and post-deployment stabilization.
  • Document system configurations, as-built architectures, and implementation decisions to support long-term operational sustainment.
• Collaboration
  • Partner with clients to derive implementation and training requirements related to operations technology job processes.
  • Promote strong client partnerships by developing professional rapport across project, operations, and training teams.
  • Collaborate with fellow consultants to design and develop implementation deliverables, training materials, and continuing education for operations job roles using various media and delivery methods.
  • Work together on implementation delivery, training delivery, and client enablement to ensure project milestones and training requirements are met.

Requirements

• Experience in a technical support or project implementation role for Electric System Operations or Electric System GIS.
• Experience developing, configuring, and supporting Control Room and ancillary applications such as EMS, SCADA, ADMS, OMS, or GIS.
• Experience participating in or leading technology implementation projects, including system integration, data migration, testing, and go-live activities.
• Experience presenting electrical or operations training, creating simulation scenarios, or supporting system implementation projects.
• Experience with Esri, ABB, OSI, GE, or Schneider Electric systems and tools.
• Excellent organizational skills with an ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated decision-making ability in a production deadline-driven environment.
• Demonstrated ability to professionally interact with diverse groups on a wide range of technical matters.
• Demonstrated ability to stay current with changing technology and learning trends and implementation practices.
• Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills.

Pay

A reasonable national base salary range for this position is $125,000.00 - $205,000.00 USD annually. Compensation decisions are dependent on relevant skills, consulting experience, education, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. This position is eligible to participate in a bonus program of up to 10% of annual compensation, subject to individual and organizational performance.
