About the role

Shape the future of the Northwest Power Grid within the Bonneville Power Administration. Become a critical force in ensuring the economic prosperity and environmental sustainability of the Pacific Northwest. This role offers the opportunity to become BPA's foremost technical expert and lead advisor on all aspects of power system modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide definitive guidance to BPA executives, federal partners, regional utilities, and regulatory bodies (including DOE, FERC, and NERC).
  • Represent BPA at national and international conferences and on technical committees, influencing industry-wide standards and practices in power system modeling.
  • Pioneer new modeling techniques, tools, and procedures to solve complex and unprecedented challenges, ensuring BPA remains at the forefront of grid technology and reliability.
  • Perform final technical oversight and provide approval for all power system models and studies created by the grid modeling team, mentoring others and guaranteeing the integrity of the team's work.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison to neighboring utilities and regional organizations, leading collaborative efforts to build a seamless and accurate model of the interconnected power grid.

Qualifications

  • BASIC REQUIREMENT: Degree in Engineering. To be acceptable, the program must lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET, or include differential and integral calculus and courses in areas of engineering science or physics.
  • Specialized Experience: Experience developing powerflow base cases and associated generator dynamic data that support transmission planning, seasonal operating limits, and commercial studies; and utilizing complex power system modeling tools to analyze power system elements and ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards.
