Greenskeeper

About the role

The position is located at the Golf Course Maintenance Branch, A.C. Read Golf Course, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, FL. The purpose of the position is to provide for and upkeep of the A.C. Read course and surrounding grounds.

Responsibilities

• Help Operates powered triplex mowers in the maintenance of tees, greens, and slopes.
• Operates riding rotary mowers, chain saws, sod cutters, vertical cutters, sweepers, and other specialty equipment having less than 20 h.p. engines.
• Occasionally drives 2-ton dump truck.
• Performs all 04 level works competently, without supervision.

Requirements

• Help Conditions of employment must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation.
• A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
• Performs manual labor, must be able to stoop, bend, lift, pull, shovel, and rake.
• Work is performed outdoors in mildly inclement weather, on wet, slippery, even and uneven surfaces.

Qualifications

• Must be able to utilize edges, trimmers, sand raking machines, hand mowers and other tools used on the course.
• Must be able to lay sod, aerate lawns, prune and trim trees and shrubs.
• Must be capable of lifting heavy loads.
• Must be able to follow simple instructions.
• Understands course set up philosophy and has acquired skills of an experienced Greenskeeper 04.
• Must have basic motor vehicle operator skills and license.
• Must be able to communicate orally and in writing and follow instructions without constant supervision.

Specialized experience

Key Requirements/Conditions of Employment

• Males must be registered or exempt from Selective Service.
• Selectee must be determined suitable for federal employment.
• Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
