Green Chain Puller
About the Role
Performs tasks associated with that of a green chain, clear chain, or sort chain person. Complies with all company safety rules and regulations. Demonstrates the ability to be a part of the production team by communicating and working within the parameters of the production department under the direction of the department supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Pulling and sorting of all lumber production on Green Chain, Sort Chain or Clear Chain.
- Making sure all lumber is pulled into its designated load according to size, length, and grade.
- Stacking all units to the correct height and width.
- Ensuring stickers are properly located.
- Ensuring the resaw and trim are properly stacked into stable units; trim units will need to be banded.
- Working with other pullers as a team to ensure a safe and efficient production flow.
- Helping ensure that all employees maintain a safe working environment and safe working habits.
- Knowing and utilizing all lock-out/tag-out procedures associated with job duties.
- Carrying stickers, straightening loads, banding units for forklift, and cleaning up when time allows.
- Reporting any potential machinery defects or safety risks immediately.
- Keeping work area clean and orderly.
- Using downtime for clean-up and minor maintenance.
Requirements
- Understand fundamentals of sawmilling.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisor.
- Work to promote a supportive teamwork environment.
- Work with limited supervision.
- Promote and support a strong safe work environment.
- Willing to fill in on off shift and overtime when required.
Qualifications
- Previous sawmill experience preferred.
- Ability to learn and understand techniques to safely perform the duties of the position.
- Ability to read and write and perform simple mathematical calculations.

- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, lift up to 50+ lbs., and manipulate 50-250 lbs.

Working Environment

- Noise level is usually moderate to loud; hearing protection is required in all areas of the sawmill.
- Dust level is usually moderate to high; eye protection is required on the entire property except on the green chain or inside closed cabs.
- Exposure to seasonal environmental factors such as heat, rain, cold, and snow due to work performed outside at all times.
