Responsibilities
- Maintain complete and thorough attendance records for all students and staff each day, including checking school absentee lists, site voicemail, and calling parents if children are absent but scheduled.
- Submit attendance rosters, schedule changes, licensing paperwork, payroll, and other reports as requested.
- Ensure the safety of all children enrolled in the program by following supervision standards in the Code of Conduct and Licensing Requirements, including maintaining constant head counts during transitions.
- Verify that only authorized parents/guardians or emergency contacts sign children in/out of the program and record the time. Return signed and dated rosters to office administration weekly.
- Follow YMCA protocols for First-Aid and emergency situations, completing necessary paperwork such as incident reports and medical logs.
- Use positive group management techniques and address behavior problems in accordance with the YMCA’s Discipline and Expulsion Policy.
- Coach, guide, and manage the day-to-day duties of group leaders/assistants, including leading activities, assisting with snack, homework support, restroom supervision, and clean-up.
- Address staff performance issues with guidance from the Program Director/Assistant Director and provide input for Mid-Year and Year-End performance reviews.
- Plan and implement a weekly curriculum incorporating physical activities, nutrition education, STEAM, educational projects, and SEL activities aligned with the Y program’s purpose and vision.
- Promote Y Programs and Camps to families and assist with planning and implementing special events, including the Annual Campaign.
- Maintain a clean and sanitary program environment by ensuring supplies, equipment, and tables are cleaned before and after activities. Ensure children wash their hands before snack and report maintenance issues to school custodians and the Assistant Director/Program Director.
- Provide attentive and hygienic care for children who soil themselves, including diaper changes, following proper techniques to maintain health and comfort. Adhere to YMCA protocols for changing soiled underwear or disposable training pants.
- Follow sanitation and health guidelines as required by licensing agencies and MetroY policies and procedures.
- Lead monthly fire safety drills and log results to meet Licensing requirements.
- Complete 20 hours of professional development annually and attend all required YMCA training and meetings.
- Maintain certifications as required, including completing CARI Background Check, CHRI/Fingerprinting, licensing training, and providing proof of a Mantoux test within two weeks of hire.
- Perform other job-related duties as requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma required; college credits or degree preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with staff, parents, and school personnel at all levels.
- Ability to problem-solve and make decisions aligned with the YMCA’s purpose, mission, and goals.
- Strong organizational, detail-oriented, and planning skills.
- 1–3 years of supervisory experience.
- 1–3 years of experience working with children in a group setting, particularly in Before/Afterschool programs.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required.
- Experience adhering to Licensing requirements.
