Responsibilities
- Accurately interpret and manipulate artwork files ensuring customers are able to sign-off on accurate proofs in a timely manner following print specifications for various printing platforms.
- Supply files to production according to scheduling requirements.
- Procure tooling and manage color management using a large platform of prepress-specific software.
- Liaise with Production Manager or other departments for job-specific instructions beyond what is provided by the customer.
- Handle customer requested changes and file manipulations, including some design work.
- Set up final stepped files for all print platforms and output final files & proofs accordingly.
- Contribute to and participate in the continuous requirements for press fingerprinting and color profiling for all of RLG’s printing platforms.
- File set-up for ordering die cavities, hot stamps, flatbed screens, and films from out-of-house suppliers.
- Create POs to supply to our outside vendors while providing accurate tooling files and specifications to meet production deadlines.
- Participate in quality assurance programs within the art process and associated processes.
- Contribute to and participate in the continuous improvement of the department, creating, documenting, and maintaining all art dept. standard SOPs, WI’s, and forms.
- Regularly participate in the art dept. KPI program.
- Maintain and ensure all art dept. equipment (computers, software, printers, etc.) are maintained to the highest standards, scheduling regular service checks and managing repairs as needed.
- Uphold all safety protocols and environmental regulations under OHSA, conduct regular training sessions on safety practices, and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with customers, sales, customer service, production planning, scheduling, and production, sharing information on project timelines and material requirements.
- Provide support to any special projects as requested and assigned by the Production Manager.
Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Graphics, Printing Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- At least five years of experience in the print and label industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to resolve issues effectively.
- Advanced understanding and use of Esko software (version 22+).
- Advanced skills working in a Mac platform with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (specializing in Illustrator and Photoshop software + additional creative suite software's), ArtPro.
- Knowledge of EFI Radius ERP is an asset.
- Effective communication skills to understand assigned work and request assistance from co-workers and Production Manager when required.
- Intermediate working knowledge of MS Word, Excel or similar documentation software for some special projects.
- Mathematical (measurement) skills are a must.
- Analytical ability and creative problem-solving/troubleshooting skills are required.
- Workflow and process improvement considered as an asset.
- Flexibility to work weekends as per business needs.
