Primary Function
Long Wave Inc. is seeking a Graphic Artist to develop, modify, and maintain technical illustrations and graphical content supporting Department of Defense (DoD) technical publications.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and maintain technical illustrations and graphical content for IETMs, NATOPS/NATIP publications, technical manuals, S1000D data modules, and associated technical data products.
- Create new technical illustrations from engineering source data, including engineering drawings, CAD models, schematics, photographs, specifications, system descriptions, supplier data, and other approved technical information.
- Revise existing technical illustrations to incorporate engineering changes, configuration updates, customer comments, source data revisions, and other approved technical changes.
- Develop illustrations that accurately communicate system configuration, component identification, location, operation, maintenance, removal and installation, assembly and disassembly, troubleshooting, and other technical information.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD data, electrical and mechanical schematics, system diagrams, photographs, and other technical source information to develop publication-ready graphical content.
- Work closely with Data Authors and Technical Data Writers to understand illustration requirements and ensure graphics accurately support associated procedures, descriptions, warnings, cautions, and other technical content.
- Develop and maintain illustrations in accordance with S1000D requirements, project business rules, customer specifications, and applicable DoD and Navy technical publication standards.
- Prepare illustrations and graphical assets for integration into EAGLE, Arbortext, Common Source Database (CSDB), and other structured technical publication environments.
- Ensure illustrations comply with required graphical formats, naming conventions, metadata, sizing, resolution, line weights, callouts, symbols, and other applicable publication requirements.
- Develop and modify vector graphics using Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, and other approved technical illustration and graphics development tools.
- Convert and simplify engineering and CAD source data into clear technical illustrations appropriate for operators, maintainers, instructors, and other intended end users.
- Participate in peer reviews, technical reviews, customer reviews, validation and verification activities, and incorporation of approved review comments.
- Maintain graphic libraries, source files, reusable graphical assets, and associated technical illustration data in accordance with established configuration management and Technical Publications processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Requirements: Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Technical Illustration, Digital Media, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
- 3+ years of professional experience in technical illustration, technical publications graphics, engineering graphics, or a related field.
- Experience translating complex engineering information into clear, accurate, and usable technical illustrations.
- Proficiency with Adobe Illustrator.
- Familiarity with vector graphic formats used within technical publication environments.
- Familiarity with S1000D and structured technical publication concepts.
- Ability to work collaboratively with Data Authors, Technical Writers, engineers, and subject matter experts to develop technically accurate graphical content.
- US Citizenship and eligibility for a DoD Security Clearance is required.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience developing technical illustrations for Navy IETMs and NATOPS/NATIP publications.
- Experience developing new technical illustrations directly from aircraft or system engineering source data.
- Experience developing illustrations for S1000D data modules.
- Experience interpreting and converting 2D and 3D CAD or engineering data into publication-ready technical illustrations.
- Experience developing electrical, mechanical, system, functional, exploded-view, assembly, and procedural illustrations.
- Active DoD Secret clearance or higher is preferred.

Employee will be working within an office environment. Employee may be expected to travel on occasion to locations where specific PPE or attire is necessary.
