About the role

The Grants Manager coordinates and oversees the full lifecycle of grant activities, supporting Tribal programs by securing funding, ensuring compliance, and maintaining organized documentation. This role leads a team approach to identify proper funding sources that enable the Mohegan Tribe to meet its goals and objectives. The Grants Manager collaborates with the Office of Self-Governance/Grants, Tribal Programs, Tribal Leadership, Tribal Membership, granting entities, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and follow Mohegan Tribe policies, procedures, and organizational structure, interpreting them clearly and accurately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, and local structures, including different granting agencies and funding sources, as well as applicable laws and regulations.
  • Apply quantitative and qualitative research and analysis methods to grant management.
  • Understand the Mohegan Community and the Tribe’s role in meeting its needs.
  • Exercise independent judgment and work under pressure, including outside normal business hours, to meet grant deadlines.
  • Work independently and as a team leader, often under tight deadlines.
  • Interpret applicable Tribal, federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.
  • Read, analyze, and interpret complex information such as technical journals, grant notices, financial reports, budgets, and legal documents.
  • Maintain accuracy, thoroughness, and strong attention to detail in all grant-related activities.
  • Interact and maintain good working relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.
  • Supervise employees and manage multiple federal grants successfully.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business, communications, economics, Political Science, Indian Studies, Paralegal or Legal, or a closely related field.
  • Seven (7) years of professional experience in grant management pertaining to federal grant awards and administration for Tribal Nations, Tribal Organizations, government agencies, and/or non-profits.
  • Five (5) years of professional experience in supervising employees.
  • Proven track record in successfully managing multiple federal grants.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office and grant management software.
  • Experience with Tribal grants activities and funding sources.
  • Willingness to travel periodically throughout the year.
  • Willingness and ability to obtain additional education and training as required.
