Grants Fiscal Technician
J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia, serving Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students annually and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance.
About the role
The Grants Fiscal Technician provides financial support to the Senior Grants Accountant within the Grants Division of the Financial Operations Department. This role assists with processing and monitoring grant-related financial transactions, including preparation and entry of corrective journal transactions, and processing specialized vendor and subrecipient payments. The position supports monthly grant reconciliations by researching and resolving outstanding procurement and payroll discrepancies to ensure accuracy and integrity of grant financial records. Additionally, the Grants Fiscal Technician assists with preparation and submission of reimbursement requests for Adult Education Grants, ensuring compliance with funding requirements and timely recovery of grant expenditures.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned and assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
Responsibilities
- Assist with processing and monitoring grant-related financial transactions.
- Prepare and enter corrective journal transactions.
- Process specialized vendor and subrecipient payments.
- Support monthly grant reconciliations by researching and resolving outstanding procurement and payroll discrepancies.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of grant financial records.
- Prepare and submit reimbursement requests for Adult Education Grants.
- Ensure compliance with funding requirements and timely recovery of grant expenditures.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and fiscal practices.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply established financial policies, procedures, and applicable federal and state regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and standard office systems.
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed fiscal work involving numerical data, including accurate arithmetic calculations and reconciliations.
- Experience reviewing, processing, and reconciling financial transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience performing fiscal, accounting, or administrative support work.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting grant-funded programs or performing grant-related financial processing (preferred).
- Coursework or training in accounting, business, or a related field.
- Experience applying fiscal policies and procedures in a public-sector or higher education environment.
- Experience working with automated financial systems.
- Experience with fixed asset or inventory tracking systems.
Pay
Hiring range is $49,000–$54,000.
Schedule
- Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., 40 hours per week.
- Occasional additional hours may be required during peak reporting periods or fiscal year-end.
- Telework options are subject to change based on business needs.
