Job Description

The New Jewish Home (TNJH) is seeking a Grants Accountant to manage the financial aspects of government and private grant funding across multiple programs and service lines, including workforce development initiatives, community-based programs such as CAPABLE, and skilled nursing facility (SNF)-related grants. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with grant requirements, accurate financial reporting, and the maintenance of financial documentation to support program and organizational operations.

The ideal candidate will have experience in nonprofit accounting and grant management, including City, State, and Federal funding, and will be comfortable working closely with program, clinical, development, and finance teams in a healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and manage all grant revenues and expenditures, ensuring compliance with grant agreements, approved budgets, and applicable regulations.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate financial reports for City, State, Federal, and private funders.
  • Work closely with program managers, clinical leadership, development, and the finance team to prepare grant budgets, budget modifications, and expenditure forecasts; ensure alignment between program activities, fundraising proposals, and approved budgets, and track salaries and shared costs across grants to ensure accurate allocation and prevent duplication or double-charging.
  • Maintain organized financial records, supporting documentation, and audit trails for all assigned grants.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, government agencies, and funders during audits, monitoring visits, and site reviews.

Skills & Requirements

  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Three or more years of nonprofit accounting experience, with specific experience in grant accounting and compliance.
  • Strong understanding of City, State, and Federal government funding requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel; experience with fund accounting software preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a complex, fast-paced healthcare environment.
