Grain Facility Operator in Training

Responsibilities

• Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre-shift meetings.
• Comply with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations (ISO where applicable).
• Perform deckhand responsibilities such as reading drafts, opening/closing lids, tying off barges, etc.
• Load and unload barges to meet draft and quality requirements, and oversee deckhands.
• Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations.
• Maintain grain quality during storage and transfer.
• Perform rail duties such as preparation, unloading, loading, placement, etc.
• Complete scale/probe operations duties, where applicable.
• Document tasks promptly, accurately, and legibly.
• Perform general clean-up duties including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and other housekeeping tasks.
• May perform preventative maintenance and repairs, unload barges, clean barges, move product to storage, load trucks using heavy equipment, load rail, load products to required specifications, operate heavy equipment, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: None required, but 1 year’s experience working in an industrial environment with a dependable work record is preferred.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
• Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to complete documentation requirements.
• Ability to follow directions and troubleshoot problems.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Ability to use tools appropriate for assigned tasks.
• Ability to provide exceptional customer service.

Qualifications

• Physical Demands & Requirements: Ability to balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, kneel, squat, climb stairs and ladders, concentrate, distinguish odors, and perform other tasks as required.
• Environmental Conditions: Work in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions, frequently use personal protective equipment, and work in environments with high dust levels around grain and other bulk products.
• Travel: Up to 20% travel may be required at some facilities.

Pay

The expected base pay range for this role is $16.50 - $25.00 per hour. Actual pay offered may vary based on individualized factors, including work location, job-related knowledge, skills, and relevant experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time position with potential for overtime and weekend work as needed.
