Graduation Coach (11 Month Position)

About the Role

The Graduation Coach is engaged in high school graduation assistance activities, working with students, school faculty and staff, parents, and guardians. The role involves providing assistance to all high school students—individually and in groups—regarding high school graduation and completion. Key activities include analyzing data to identify students or subgroups at risk, planning and tracking individual graduation plans, resolving barriers to graduation, and facilitating career choices and planning.

Responsibilities

• Identifies and counsels high school students at risk of dropping out, developing strategies to engage them in learning using academic and behavioral data.
• Develops and implements Engagement and Career Plans for at-risk students, collaborating with teachers, counselors, parents, employers, mentors, and other stakeholders.
• Reviews and monitors students' Engagement and Career Plans each semester, making adjustments as needed and addressing non-adherence.
• Provides training and support to middle and high school teachers on measures to assist at-risk youth.
• Works with faculty and administrators to develop credit recovery and alternative curriculum options for at-risk students.
• Designs and implements individual, small group, and whole-school intervention and prevention strategies to improve graduation rates.
• Develops Transition Programs and Vertical Teams with middle and high schools, conducting quarterly meetings to improve student transition success.
• Collaborates with teachers, counselors, and advisors to support 8th graders and freshmen in adapting to high school.
• Facilitates collaborations with parents, guardians, community organizations, and mentoring programs to connect students with resources.
• Provides support and outreach to parents of at-risk students.
• Prepares and submits reports as scheduled or requested.
• Attends and participates in ongoing professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in education, training, curriculum, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Valid Tennessee certificate in Teaching, Service (School Counseling, School Psychology, and/or School Social Work), and/or Leadership.
• Five years of successful counseling or teaching experience.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels.
• Outstanding written and oral communication and facilitation skills, tailoring messages for different audiences.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

• Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods and exerting up to 10 pounds of force regularly.
• Involves operating office equipment with some dexterity.
• No unusual environmental hazards.
• Requires normal visual acuity, hearing, and speaking abilities (ADA compliance).
