Graduation Coach (10 Month Position)

About the Role

The Graduation Coach is engaged in high school graduation assistance activities, including working with students, school faculty and staff, parents, and guardians. The role involves providing assistance to all high school students, individually and in groups, regarding high school graduation and completion.

Responsibilities

• Identifies and counsels high school students at risk of dropping out and develops strategies to engage them in learning using relevant academic and behavioral data.
• Develops and implements Engagement and Career plans for at-risk students, collaborating with teachers, counselors, parents, employers, mentors, and other stakeholders.
• Reviews and monitors students' Engagement and Career Plans each semester, making adjustments as necessary and working with relevant parties when students are not adhering to plans.
• Provides training and support to middle and high school teachers on measures that assist at-risk youth.
• Works with faculty and administrators to develop credit recovery and alternative curriculum options for at-risk students.
• Develops and implements individual, small group, and whole-school intervention and prevention strategies to improve graduation rates.
• Develops Transition Programs and Vertical Teams with middle and high schools, conducting quarterly meetings to improve student and subgroup transition success rates.
• Collaborates with teachers, counselors, and advisors to support 8th graders and freshmen in adapting to high school.
• Facilitates collaborations with parents, guardians, community organizations, and other resources to support students.
• Connects students and parents with community organizations, mentoring programs, and business or community coaches.
• Provides support and outreach to parents of at-risk students.
• Provides and submits reports as scheduled or requested.
• Attends and participates in ongoing professional development.
• Performs other duties as needed or assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in education, training, subject field, curriculum, or related content area. Master's degree preferred.
• A valid Tennessee certificate in Teaching, Service (School Counseling, School Psychology, and/or School Social Work), and/or Leadership.
• Five (5) years of successful counseling or teaching experience.

• Superb computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships at all levels of the organization.
• Outstanding written and oral communication and facilitation skills, tailoring messages for the audience, context, and mode of communication.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods and exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis. Some dexterity in operating office equipment is required. The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards. Normal visual acuity, hearing, and speaking abilities are necessary for ADA compliance.
