About the role
The HydroCS lab at New Mexico State University seeks one PhD student to contribute to its research directions. The position is expected to start in Fall 2026, with consideration for a start in Spring–Fall 2027 based on timing and candidate circumstances.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to large-scale hydrologic and hydraulic modeling workflows
- Engage in high-performance and scalable computing for hydrologic applications
- Develop and maintain reproducible computational workflows and open-source software
- Explore machine-learning-based surrogate and adaptive modeling strategies for hydrologic models
Requirements
- A background in water resources engineering, computational hydrology, hydrologic modeling, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated experience in programming and numerical modeling
- A strong interest in scientific computing, reproducible computational workflows, or open-source software development
Qualifications
- PhD degree in relevant field required
- Strong academic record and research potential
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Skills
- Programming proficiency (e.g., Python, R, C++, Fortran)
- Numerical modeling expertise
- Experience with scientific computing and reproducibility
- Interest in artificial intelligence and machine learning
