About the role

Performs direct patient care activities for all age groups to include assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Monitors and coordinates patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient care and comfort. Functions within the scope of nursing preparation and consistent with the established guidelines of nursing practice, the goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, the Respective State Nurse Practice Act, the Code of Professional and Business Ethics and the Co-Worker Code of Conduct. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Position Details

Registered Nurse or Graduate Nurse Resident

Location: Mercy Hospital Southeast, Cape Girardeau, MO • Department: 4H Cardiac Progressive Care • Shift: 12 Hour Days (7:00am - 7:30pm) • Status: Full-Time - 36 hours/week

Responsibilities

  • Perform direct patient care activities for all age groups, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Monitor and coordinate patient care activities with ancillary departments to optimize patient care and comfort.
  • Function within the scope of nursing preparation and established guidelines of nursing practice.
  • Adhere to the goals of Mercy Health System, the Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, state Nurse Practice Act, and professional codes of conduct.

Requirements

  • Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
  • Current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure; must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire.
  • Other unit-specific certifications as required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Stand and walk most of the time on duty.
  • Meet unit-specific physical demands, including significant bending, stooping, lifting, and turning patients with assistance.
  • May be required to work varying schedules, shifts, or days of the week based on patient care requirements.
  • High risk of exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Regularly push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs.; pinch up to 15 lbs.; minimal kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Prolonged standing and walking each shift.
  • Ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
