About the role

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Graduate Nurse to provide patient care within secure correctional facilities. This position reports to a licensed Registered Nurse and requires a nursing degree.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a range of patient care assignments
  • Work within the secure perimeter of MDOC facilities
  • Obtain licensure within six months of hire and reclassify to Registered Nurse P11

Requirements

  • Education: Possession of a diploma, associate's, bachelor's, or master's degree in nursing accepted for licensure by the Michigan Board of Nursing
  • Experience: No specific type or amount is required

Qualifications

  • Must be able to pass a background check
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening
  • Must be able to pass a physical examination

Skills

  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of correctional healthcare practices

  • Location options include Baraga, Carson City, Freeland, Kincheloe, Manistee, Marquette, Munising, Muskegon, Newberry, St. Louis
