Halff has an immediate opening for a Graduate Engineer to join our growing Mechanical Engineering team in San Antonio, Texas.

About the role

The ideal candidate will have experience in HVAC air and hydronic concepts and must be capable of performing routine calculations, equipment layout and basic equipment under supervision of senior staff. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this individual will perform engineering calculations, assist with equipment selection and layout, and contribute to the design and development of mechanical systems for a variety of projects. Responsibilities

  • Support the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems for various projects, including HVAC systems, plumbing systems, fire protection systems, and energy management systems.
  • Basic design and layout of HVAC air and hydronic systems.
  • Build strong working relationships with both clients and internal contacts with other Halff offices.
  • Collaborate effectively with other engineers, architects, and project stakeholders including owners.
  • Set-up drawing sheets in REVIT, develop equipment schedules, and run basic calculations.
  • Assist in estimated project construction cost and specification writing.
  • Participate in development of comprehensive mechanical engineering design packages, including drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Conduct technical analyses, simulations, and calculations to evaluate system performance, efficiency, and safety.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to seamlessly integrate mechanical systems with other disciplines such as electrical, structural, and architectural engineering.
  • Provide technical expertise and support to clients, offering innovative solutions to complex mechanical engineering challenges.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing mechanical systems and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in mechanical engineering technology, codes, and standards, and incorporate them into project designs.
  • Assist in business development activities, including proposal writing, creating client presentations, and participating in project interviews.
  • Assist with reviewing and approving engineering deliverables to foster compliance with project requirements, industry standards, and regulatory codes.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, or ABET accredited equivalent engineering degree.
  • Experience designing HVAC and hydronic systems within an engineering consulting firm preferred.
  • Texas Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or the ability to obtain within one year of employment.
  • Revit (BIM) and AutoCAD production experience required.
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, codes, and standards.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit.
  • Experience with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, plumbing systems, and fire protection systems design.
  • Familiarity with energy modeling and sustainability practices in mechanical engineering.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and adapt to changing project requirements.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate and high-quality work.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in Trane Trace 700 or Carrier HAP preferred.
  • Working knowledge of IMC and ASHRAE 90.1 preferred.
