Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Visually inspect each piece of lumber on all four sides to determine the proper grade according to company and industry standards.
- Measure lumber using tape measures, size gauges, and other measuring devices to verify proper dimensions and specifications.
- Accurately mark each piece of lumber with the appropriate grade designation.
- Continuously monitor lumber sizes and product quality throughout production.
- Identify defects, quality concerns, or production issues and immediately notify the Production Supervisor.
- Pull and sort designated grades onto lay-up carts according to production requirements.
- Safely operate a skill saw and other hand tools as required.
- Maintain constant awareness of product flow and surrounding work activities.
- Follow all Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures applicable to assigned duties.
- Immediately report equipment malfunctions or machinery defects.
- Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or potential hazards.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform housekeeping, cleanup, and minor maintenance during production downtime.
- Assist in other production areas as assigned to support operational needs.
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of lumber grading principles.
- Familiarity with laminated beam (Lam) grading is a plus.
- Ability to accurately identify lumber grades and defects.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to make quick, accurate decisions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and coworkers.
