Grade Foreperson
Position Overview
A front line supervisory position overseeing the day-to-day completion of projects. Focuses on Storm Utility, Dirt/Earth Work, and Miscellaneous Concrete Work.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
- Lead crew in safety culture and ensure a safe working environment
- Work with Project Manager and Superintendent to achieve timely job-specific instructions
- Supervise, coordinate, train, and coach assigned personnel in job completion and daily work duties
- Read, interpret, and follow owner's plans and specifications
- Supervise equipment operators and laborers to ensure work is done according to field layout and plans
- Ensure proper compaction of material, quality handwork, ride-ability, and overall aesthetics of work
- Perform duties of an equipment operator and laborer when necessary
- Notify Project Manager and Superintendent of job site changes requiring adjustments to previous instructions
- Ensure equipment and job site are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion
- Maintain time and material records for daily job costing
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Multiple years of experience in excavation and grading with significant seat-time operating heavy machinery on civil construction projects
- Knowledgeable of materials and equipment needed to perform tasks
- Ability to read plans and specifications
- Mathematical understanding to calculate grades, slopes, yields, etc.
- Related experience in construction field, minimum 5 years preferred
- Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check
- Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications and able to learn new software systems as needed
- Communicate appropriately with direct reports, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public
- Decision-making skills for cost-effective solutions on jobs in the absence of a superintendent
