Responsibilities
- Maintain NPDES weekly report
- Perform pre-task meetings with the work crew to ensure safe work practices, procedures, and hazards are identified
- Interpret company policy to workers, enforce safety rules and regulations, and recommend corrective actions when performance and behavioral expectations and standards are not met
- Be familiar with the type of soils on a site and ensure appropriate monitoring of oxygen levels within an enclosed excavation area
- Give specific instructions on how to excavate, including at what angle and to what depth the crew should dig
- Exercise judgment and use discretion to troubleshoot and problem-solve issues as they may arise throughout the course of the work
- Complete daily Forman Report, track, and log daily payroll records, verify accuracy, and submit in a timely manner
- Recognize material/tool/equipment requirements based on upcoming activities from drawing take-offs and layout work
- Interpret blueprint specifications and job orders and assist workers in solving job site problems
- Understand plans, specifications, elevations, grades, and grade checks
- Thoroughly understand all base and grading equipment and processes
- Supervise work crew, develop work schedules, recommend personnel actions such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary actions
- Check employee’s time sheets for accuracy and cost coding and attendance
- Ensure new employees are oriented to the job site for safety requirements and tool location
- Maintain responsibility for tracking and maintaining tools
- Assign work tasks, provide on-site instruction on work processes and procedures, and inspect work for compliance with plans and specifications
- Able to access work aptitude and ethics for new hires
- Coordinate work schedules with other foremen and inspect materials
- Operate power equipment and other machinery as needed and perform all tasks of workers in the crew as required
- Train employees on proper use of equipment, improve job performance, control costs and quality of work, increase productivity, improve communication and housekeeping on project
- Receive instructions and specifications from General Foremen and Superintendents and transmit them to other members of the crew
- Interface with project and field engineers and subcontractors as needed to carry out identified tasks and work orders
- Act as the first point of contact in the superintendent’s absence, including interfacing with inspectors, EPA, OSHA, or any on-site visitors
- Participate in subcontractors and safety meetings, recognize, correct, and report safety hazards, and halt unsafe work practices
- Actively participate in the development of the Four Week Look Ahead schedules with the Superintendents
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of Supervisory experience in mass grading, finishing slopes and ditches and/or highway work is required. Experience with NCDOT projects and NCDOT Level II EC Certification a plus.
- Candidate must have experience with Trimble / Topcon GPS.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and get along with a wide variety of people.
- Ability to lift construction materials exceeding 50 lbs.
- Ability to resolve problems and make appropriate and timely decisions.
- Ability to properly access and evaluate worker's performance and workmanship.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Must have a Valid Driver License.
- Education: A high school diploma or the equivalent is preferred. A combination of education and experience is acceptable.
