Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor (NY HELPS)
About the role
Under the general supervision of the Golf Course Manager 2, SG-18, the incumbent will plan, assign tasks, and assist with the overall supervision and administration of the facility as well as perform maintenance and operational duties.
Responsibilities
- Plans, schedules, and supervises daily maintenance and repair work on greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs, and landscaping.
- Oversees the operation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Trains and directs grounds maintenance crews in mowing, trimming, seeding, fertilizing, aerating, and topdressing activities.
- Applies or directs the application of fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in accordance with safety codes, rules, and regulations.
- Operates and maintains specialized turf equipment and power tools.
- Inspects golf course conditions daily to determine work priorities and course setup.
- Maintains detailed records of chemical applications, maintenance schedules, and equipment usage.
- Assists the Golf Course Manager 2 with budgeting, procurement, and seasonal staffing plans.
- Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 B/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: Two years of experience in the maintenance, operation, or management of a golf course and related facilities and equipment, including one year of supervisory experience; college study in turf agronomy or golf course management or a related field may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for up to one year of the general experience.
55-b/c Qualifications
This position is eligible for 55b/c appointment, and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. To be eligible for a 55b/c appointment, candidate must be currently enrolled in the Civil Service 55b/c program and must meet the minimum qualifications listed above. Reassignment Qualifications
Current NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Employees only, with at least one year of permanent or contingent-permanent qualifying service as a Golf Course Maintenance Supervisor.
Operational Needs
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must be physically able to perform light to medium labor and lift up to 50 pounds.
