About the Opportunity

A Financial Services Group is looking for a lawyer with 6+ years' experience with Global Payments and Transaction Banking for an ongoing engagement starting as soon as possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a broad range of agreements supporting the bank's global payments and transaction banking business, including:
  • Wire transfer and funds transfer agreements
  • ACH and direct debit arrangements
  • Correspondent banking and nostro/vostro account agreements
  • Payment processing and merchant acquiring agreements
  • Cash management services agreements
  • Advise on legal and regulatory frameworks governing domestic and cross-border payment systems, including SWIFT, FedNow, RTP, SEPA Instant, Fedwire, CHIPS, TARGET2, and related clearing and settlement rules
  • Support the negotiation and documentation of correspondent banking relationships, including account agreements, service level agreements, and risk allocation provisions
  • Partner with business, product, compliance, operations, technology, and risk teams to identify legal risks and develop practical, business-focused solutions
  • Advisory on payment-related disputes, including unauthorized transfers, payment recalls, fraud claims, and operational issues
  • Monitor and advise on developments impacting the payments industry, including ISO 20022 migration, open banking initiatives, digital currencies, stablecoins, and faster payments regulation
  • Support policy updates, documentation enhancements, and legal guidance related to evolving payments products and infrastructure
  • Assist with additional legal department initiatives as needed

  • Location: Remote (hybrid candidates may also work from the client's Manhattan, NY office)
  • Schedule: Full-time
  • Duration: Ongoing engagement
  • Compensation: $140-$150 per hour

Required

  • Candidates must be able to work full-time.
  • The work will be performed remotely, with hybrid candidates having the option to work from the client's Manhattan office.
  • Company's preferred pricing model is hourly with a budget of $140-$150/hour.
  • Candidates will be employed (W-2) by an Employer of Record for the duration of the engagement.
