About the Role

The Global Learning Program Manager is part of the Global Engagement team, leading global programs and strategy while promoting global diversity and intercultural learning for the University. This role is integral to executing the goals of SCU’s strategic plan, Our programs provide students with global learning outcomes that exemplify an SCU Impact 2030 Priority One: Reach on a Global Scale. The position is part of a small, dynamic team within Global Engagement, which oversees key programs such as:

  • Study Abroad
  • Summer Study Abroad

  • Fulbright UK Summer Institutes
  • Global Explorations Faculty-Led
  • Undergraduate Research Abroad
  • Global Engagement Discovery Fellowships
  • Exchange and Visiting International Students

Responsibilities

Overseeing Advising Framework (40%)

  • Employ developmentally and culturally appropriate advising frameworks and methods for students and families.
  • Demonstrate understanding of all undergraduate major/minor/Core requirements, Global Learning program courses for all approved programs (approximately 60 academic year and 30 summer programs), and advise students on course planning, integration, and selection.
  • Provide advising to diverse student and campus populations, including targeted group advising, supervision of peer-advising, and individual advising appointments.
  • Advise prospective, current, and returned participants and their families on University policy, programs, health and safety, financing, course planning, and curriculum requirements.
  • Stay current with changes in University policies, Global Learning program portfolio, scholarship opportunities, and undergraduate degree programs.
  • Maintain awareness of health, safety, and risk management issues in education abroad.
  • Develop advising materials and resources, including writing and designing content for the Global Learning Advising Module in Camino.
  • Identify new opportunities to improve the existing advising program based on best practices.
  • Serve as the primary lead responding to the globallearning@scu.edu inbox.

Program Management (50%)

  • Work as part of a team by assuming primary or secondary responsibility for one or more specific programs managed by the Global Learning Team.
  • Peer Advisor Program Management and Supervision:
    • In collaboration with the Director of Global Learning, provide day-to-day management of the Peer Advisor Program, including hiring, training, and supervision of six Peer Advisors.
    • Manage Peer Advisor schedules and advising appointment schedules.
    • Develop training curriculum, e.g., videos, quizzes for the Peer Advisor Program.
  • Outreach/Advising/Application Program Management:
    • Plan and manage the annual Global Opportunities Expo fair; coordinate event logistics and partner with vendors, campus collaborators, and Global Learning program student alumni to support successful programming.
    • Actively participate in the Global Learning application review and selection process.
    • Create and manage promotional materials, newsletters, social media content, and digital campaigns that reflect SCU’s values of diversity and cura personalis.
    • Write, manage, and send a weekly newsletter to all prospective/interested students.
    • Write, manage, and send a parent/family newsletter for all interested parents/families.
    • Engage in social media communications (YouTube channel, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.).
  • Pre-departure Orientation Program Management:
    • Organize pre-departure orientation programming mandatory for all students participating in Global Learning programs, including health and safety, verification of mandatory pre-departure forms, organization of online and in-person mandatory sessions, and student communication including reminders and make-up sessions.
  • Evaluation/Re-entry/Returning Student Program Management:
    • Manage reentry programming for all students after return to campus from Global Learning programs, with a focus on academic and career integration.
    • Manage the dissemination and collection of mandatory Global Learning programs evaluation and SCU Global Learning assessment components, including communication to students who do not submit by the deadline.
    • Track programming attendance and participation outcomes to guide strategic improvements and ensure inclusive outreach.
    • Analyze student participation data, assessment results, and trends in Global Learning to guide improvements and measure program outcomes.
  • Conduct site visits to programs abroad and/or participate in education abroad meetings focused on best practices, e.g., The Forum, normally once annually.

Cross-Departmental Communications and Collaboration (10%)

  • Collaborate with academic departments, student organizations, Drahmann Center, Residential Learning, LEAD, Honors, Athletics, RLCs, International Students and Scholars, Young Scholars Program, and Transfer Student Welcome.
  • Lead or participate in programming, working groups, or designated committees that promote Global Engagement to faculty, staff, and students across campus.
  • Arrange student participation and represent Global Learning at campus-wide events such as Family Weekend, Preview Days, Orientation, and Welcome Weekend.
  • Market the Peer Advising program to students and other constituencies.
  • Support the Director and Assistant Director in generating content for the website.
  • Update content provided by the Director/Assistant Director in Terra Dotta. Recommend design and format updates to improve user experience with Terra Dotta while maintaining data integrity.
  • Lead or actively participate in programs or initiatives within Global Engagement that contribute broadly to the internationalization of the campus and collaborate with colleagues within Global Engagement and other departments to achieve effective outcomes for events and initiatives.

Skills

  • Excellent cross-cultural, written, oral, and presentation communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Terra Dotta, and website management.
  • Process management and time management skills.
  • Ability to compose and give effective presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multiple audiences and de-escalate charged situations.
