About the role
The Glazing Mechanic is responsible for the professional installation of glass and aluminum systems on a variety of building types. This includes curtain walls, storefronts, windows, doors, and other glazing systems. The role demands precision, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. The Mechanic will work independently and as part of a team under the direction of the Lead Mechanic or Foreman.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Installation of Exterior & Interior glass panels, aluminum framing, doors, and hardware systems per project specifications.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and work orders to determine layout and installation procedures.
- Load and unload materials and equipment; transport items to designated areas on-site.
- Take accurate field measurements and verify field conditions before the installation process begins.
- Ensure all materials are securely anchored and aligned, ensuring water-tight and structurally sound installations.
- Handle glass safely, using proper equipment such as suction cups, lifts, or cranes when needed.
- Maintain tools and equipment in clean and working conditions, report issues or damage promptly.
- Collaborate with Foreman and other trades to meet project deadlines and resolve on-site issues.
- Maintain tools, materials, and work-area in a safe, clean condition.
- Strictly follow all safety regulations and always wear appropriate PPE.
- Mentor and guide helpers and junior staff in proper techniques and safety practices.
- Participate in Toolbox Talks, Safety Meetings, and Daily Huddles regularly.
- Communicate with the foreman or superintendent and report any observed discrepancies, changes and problems immediately.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and other trades on-site.
Requirements / Qualifications
- 1–4 years of experience in the glazing industry or a related construction trade.
- Proficient in glass handling, installation of curtain walls, storefronts, and door systems.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents and layout drawings.
- Strong understanding of glazing techniques, tools, materials, and hardware.
- OSHA 10 Certification preferred (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, and willingness to learn.
- Physical ability to work at heights and operate in various weather conditions.
- Must be punctual and able to follow instructions from leadership.
- Willingness to travel to different job sites as required.

- Measuring Tools: Tape Measure, Laser Distance Measurer (Optional)
- Cutting Tools: Retractable Utility Knife, Snips – Min (1) pair (L,R&S Preferred), HD Scissors
- Installation Tools: Suction Cup, Cordless Drill and Impact Gun W/ Extra Batteries, Rubber Mallet, Tool Belt, Hand Screwdrivers (Flat, #2 & #3 Phillips)
- Safety Gear: Safety Glasses (Provided by SPS), Cut-resistant Gloves (Provided by SPS), Hard Hat (Provided by SPS), Steel-toe Boots, High-visibility Vest (Provided by SPS)
Physical Demands
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb for extended periods.
- Occasionally lift but not limited to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to the loud noise of construction equipment and traffic.
- Exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
- Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
- Exposure to extreme cold (non-weather).
- Exposure to extreme heat (non-weather).
- Risk of electrical shock.
- Vibration.
Environment / Working Conditions
- Work is primarily conducted on job sites or in the field.
- The environment may be noisy and physically demanding.
- Safety gear is required.
