Responsibilities
- Collects, digitizes, and records GPS coordinates and field measurements of the City’s water and sewer features.
- Designs, plots, and publishes digital maps for use with mobile computers.
- Maintains integrity of GIS files and assists staff, consultants, and customers in identifying and mapping water and sewer infrastructure.
- Maintains permanent records, files, drawings, and the Utilities Department map room.
- Occasionally performs utilities plan reviews to ensure engineers and customers comply with City Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Construction.
Requirements
- Knowledge of GPS principles and practices.
- Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information System) database management principles.
- Knowledge of work safety principles and practices.
- Knowledge of basic principles, practices, methods and equipment used in the construction, installation, maintenance of water transmission and distribution systems, sewer and water collection systems and related facilities.
- Knowledge of department and city policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
- Skills in the use of a variety of job-specific software programs.
- Skills in the collection of field data.
- Skills in preparing written reports and technical maps and drawings.
- Skills in planning, organization, and decision making.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree with courses in GIS, geography, engineering or related field.
- Proficient in the use of GIS data translation and manipulation software and GPS equipment.
Skills
- Excellent computer skills in GPS Pathfinder, ArcGIS and TerraSync software.
