About the role
The GIS Technician supports engineering and field operations by creating GIS-based designs, maintaining accurate geospatial records, and supporting safety and compliance initiatives for utility infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Create GIS designs and cost estimates for main and service-related work.
- Collect as-built field data using mobile GPS equipment to maintain accurate asset records.
- Update GIS maps and attribute data to ensure records remain current and reliable.
- Perform quality checks on GIS data before posting to production.
- Support engineering, operations, and project teams with mapping and GIS information.
- Visit job sites to assess requirements and translate field information into GIS records.
- Review development plans and provide mapping-related support to internal and external stakeholders.
- Aid with easement and right-of-way documentation in GIS.
- Support pipeline safety, system integrity, and compliance-related GIS analysis.
Qualifications
- 1–3 years of GIS experience, including design, as-built data, and geospatial analysis.
- Experience with Esri-based GIS platforms and geospatial datasets.
- Familiarity with CAD, Geopak, or similar design tools in a utility or infrastructure setting.
- Knowledge of utility locating or infrastructure mapping workflows.
- Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geoscience, Cartography, or related field (or in progress).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to field sites.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
