About the Role

Creates zoning, historic, annexation, and other maps using data and geographic information. Generates addressing plats and updates street name list and range maps.

Responsibilities

  • Generates addressing plats utilizing Geographic Information Systems and drawing tools.
  • Updates street name list by comparing the new subdivision plats versus the GIS data and existing plats.
  • Performs technical duties in the maintenance, development, and operation of the geographic information systems.
  • Creates, maintains, and edits departmental shape files and layers.
  • Prepares a variety of analysis of electronic information, including the preparation of multi-layered and linked maps and tabular data; prepares graphic materials and assists staff in interpreting the results.
  • Ensures the quality and accuracy of a variety of geographic information system data, including researching and revising maps and data from other data sources.
  • Performs related work as required.

  • Modern office procedures and methods including computers and applicable software

Work Environment

  • Primarily office or similar indoor environment, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
  • Occasional exposure to unpleasant environmental conditions and/or hazards, including outside work.
  • Sedentary work involving sitting most of the time, with occasional walking and standing.
  • Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.

Exposures

  • Seldom: Individuals who are hostile or irate, extreme heat (above 100 degrees)
  • Never: Extreme cold (below 32 degrees), individuals with known violent backgrounds, communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals or substances, loud noises (85+ decibels)

Travel

  • Sometimes: Local travel
  • Never: International, regional, or national travel

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geography or Information Systems
  • At least one (1) year of experience in geographic information systems
  • Valid Texas Driver License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment)

Applicants with foreign education must submit a foreign credential evaluation completed by a professional credential evaluation agency that is a member of NACES or AICE, verifying U.S. equivalency of the degree.
