SAFEbuilt is seeking an experienced Planning and Zoning Administrator to support operations in the Chikaming, Michigan area. This part-time role offers dynamic assignments and the opportunity to work with a respected zoning regulation team.
Responsibilities
- Review zoning and zoning conditions, overlay, open space, building form, site design, and landscape compliance for building and site plans.
- Research zoning requirements (conditions, overlays, design guidelines, zoning code (Ch 27), and land development codes (Ch 14)) where infrastructure conflicts or interfaces occur.
- Determine type of use, occupancy classification, and ensure plans comply with applicable codes and ordinances.
- Coordinate plan review tracking, reporting, and interaction with applicable departments.
- Review plans for compliance, including verification of dimensional requirements.
- Identify deficiencies by code section and prepare comments for permitting software.
- Request missing information from applicants as needed.
- Contact applicants and coordinate with plan reviewers for building and land development codes.
- Run reports from permitting software documenting reviews completed and duration time.
- Serve as a resource for team members and provide support for roundtable discussions.
Requirements
- 2 years of development review or plan review experience.
- Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
- Basic knowledge of urban planning principles, specifically land use regulation.
- Basic knowledge of land development processes, including zoning regulations, land entitlements, and public infrastructure construction.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment.
- Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
- Ability to prepare written plan review correspondence and update information into company software programs.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with online permitting applications preferred.
