GIS Staff Technician

About the Role
A GIS Staff Technician within QISG focuses on data capture and real-time reporting for project-related internal engineering support, with deliverables that serve our clients on large-scale energy generation and transmission-related projects. This office-based position involves collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team—including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts—to provide GIS solutions. Responsibilities include supporting GIS Coordinators in building custom solutions, performing daily quality control, and executing geoprocessing and analysis steps for successful project delivery.
A successful candidate is an efficient self-starter, leader, communicator, and problem-solver comfortable using the latest ArcGIS Pro software and ArcGIS Online. They should have experience with geoprocessing tools and the ability to independently troubleshoot ArcGIS processing errors. The role encourages leveraging advancements in GIS software to optimize the user experience for end-users and clients.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the setup and maintenance of GIS data capture/tracking projects
- Attend meetings related to project setup, maintenance, and delivery
- Interface directly with clients and/or QISG Project Management to refine project support needs
- Perform daily quality checks on tools, maps, or outputs and troubleshoot issues in real time
- Build Survey123 forms in Survey123 Connect and web maps for data collection in Field Maps
- Report weekly activities to the GIS Manager
- Research updates/advancements that may impact tools/outputs or provide new solutions to obstacles
- Run and manage Python scripts for process automation
- Provide daily technical support to field staff with a patient and collaborative approach
- Support other GIS requests within the Civil Engineering group
Requirements
- GIS/GISP Certification OR Bachelor’s Degree in Geographic Information Systems, Geography, Computer Science, or a related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience using ArcGIS in a GIS Technician (or equivalent) role, with applied cartography, database management, and spatial analysis
- Demonstrated proficiency with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams
- Ability to work with moderate supervision in a small or medium-sized office setting
- Experience with Survey123 and Field Maps
- Experience with ArcGIS Dashboards
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot ArcGIS-related challenges
- Strong cartographic and visual design standards for print and web products
- Strong data management skills, including creating, editing, and transforming GIS data
- Experience writing/operating Python scripts to automate processes
- Experience building forms via ArcGIS Survey123 Connect for data collection
- Experience leveraging AGOL Web Applications (e.g., ArcGIS Dashboards, Story Maps, Experiences)
- Applied GIS experience in the civil engineering industry
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs at times
- Must be able to bend, lift, climb, and walk on uneven surfaces
Travel Requirements
Varies based on seasonal and project requirements: estimated as up to 0-5% of the work year for conference attendance.

Pay
The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $56,700.00/Yr. - USD $87,400.00/Yr., depending on experience and qualifications.
