About the Role

The assistant coach is responsible for the welfare and conduct of team members from the time they report for practice or a game until they leave the school. The role requires modeling good sportsmanship, respect, and empathy for each athlete while prioritizing character-building over winning. The stipend for this fall-season position is $4,500.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and administer all aspects of coaching an athletic team.
  • Plan and supervise team travel to events, practices, and competitions.
  • Collaborate with the athletics director and booster club on budget requests, spending, and fundraising.
  • Support in-season and out-of-season conditioning and weight training programs with staff.
  • Coordinate practice and game schedules with the Athletics Office and other coaches.
  • Enforce and model discipline and positive sportsmanship; manage penalties for breaches.
  • Perform other duties related to the program as assigned.
  • Enforce Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) and ISD 191 rules for the sport.
  • Follow athletic department policies for ordering equipment, uniforms, and supplies.
  • Assist the Athletics Office in maintaining accurate records for MSHSL participation.
  • Prepare and maintain team rosters, including grade level, team level, and positions.
  • Report and document all major student injuries immediately to the Athletic Trainer and Athletics Office.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and background in volleyball.
  • Familiarity with State, Federal, and ISD 191 School Board Policies on student conduct and discipline.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with coworkers, parents, community members, supervisors, and students.
  • Ability to receive feedback and adjust accordingly.
  • Strong work ethic and dedication to student participation in co-curricular activities.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions.

Qualifications

  • Coaching license or completion of MSHSL Coaching Certification preferred.
  • Must be current on MSHSL Coaches Dashboard account with Continuing Education or willing to complete requirements.

Pay

$4,500 stipend for the fall season.
