About the Role

Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital offers highly specialized surgical and medical services in an intimate environment and is known for outstanding patient care. With 64 private patient rooms, 14 operating rooms, and four intensive care unit rooms, the facility was designed to provide a comforting, innovative, and efficient environment centered on the patient experience. The campus features a park-like setting with landscaping and a walking path that winds through the grounds and connects to Millennium Park.

The Endoscopy department at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital is a highly specialized, full-service department meeting the needs of inpatient and outpatient clients. The lab specializes in Upper Endoscopy (EGD), Esophagoscopy, Colonoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS), ERCP, Bronchoscopy, EBUS, Small Bowel Enteroscopy (SBE), and Video Capsule Endoscopy. The endoscopy staff consists of a Nurse Practitioner (NP), RNs, and technicians overseen by an Endoscopy Supervisor.

This is a PRN (as-needed) opportunity. BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

Responsibilities

  • Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and their families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, or caregiver, in accordance with established guidelines and standards of nursing care.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing (required).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
  • Current RN licensure (required).
  • No prior experience required, though supervisor experience is not necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • GI, ED, or ICU experience.

Role Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.
