About the role
Deliver high quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to patients focusing on the care of seniors; prepare trainees for safe and competent independent practice, engage in scholarship (including with trainees) and provide service to the Department, Health System and/or community.
Responsibilities
- Provide clinical geropsychiatry services to patients referred to VCU Health System.
- Aid in the development of a program focused on older adults with psychiatric disorders.
- Teach, supervise, and mentor residents/fellows/medical students.
- Participate in scholarly projects with trainees.
- Participate on committees, task forces, and/or executive boards in service to the Department, Health System, University, and/or community.
- Other duties as required, including documentation requirements and in-service completion as needed for compliance with regulations and practice standards.
Qualifications
- Virginia Licensed or eligible, BC/BE Psychiatrist with interest in working primarily in an outpatient psychiatry setting and with trainees.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
- Board Certification in Geropsychiatry (preferred).
- Experience in teaching residents and medical students (preferred).
- Overall experience of 3-5 years as a practicing psychiatrist preferred.
