About the role

Atlas is seeking a Geotechnical Special Inspector to join our multidisciplinary team of engineers, construction inspectors, and environmental professionals. The successful candidate will contribute to major transportation and fish passage projects throughout the state. We are looking for a candidate with 2 to 5 years of experience in geotechnical projects, along with additional skills in civil and/or environmental disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform geotechnical engineering analysis and calculations for heavy civil projects
  • Field reconnaissance
  • Field logging and managing drilling programs for a variety of projects
  • Field inspections of drilled shafts, soil nails, soldier piles, tiebacks, and shoring
  • Review test results and make recommendations
  • Preparation of soil reports and proposals
  • Perform various other geotechnical engineering tasks
  • Shoring design

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience
  • EIT/GIT preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of basic engineering and construction principles and schedules
  • Demonstrated ability in utilizing and interpreting written materials such as policies, manuals, plans, specifications, survey requests, and instructions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with diverse groups
  • Ability to work as part of a team, follow instructions, and accept constructive feedback, as well as work independently
  • Capability to work any shift, including evenings, weekends, and overnight stays
  • Ability to lift and manipulate up to 50 pounds of various materials and equipment
  • Ability to traverse uneven and steep terrain adjacent to traffic and heavy equipment, using normal ranges of sight and hearing
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle
  • Knowledge of WSDOT Standard Specifications and Geotechnical Design Manual

Pay

$45 - $54 hourly rate. The expected salary range is displayed in accordance with state law, with final compensation based on individual qualifications and experience.
