About the role
The Geotechnical Project Engineer plays a key role in executing and managing geotechnical, construction, and geo-environmental projects across Florida and beyond. This role blends technical leadership with hands-on field experience, client coordination, and engineering analysis.
Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee field investigations and laboratory testing programs for soil, rock, and groundwater.
- Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, and timelines in collaboration with senior leadership.
- Interpret subsurface data and prepare geotechnical engineering reports, including recommendations for foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, settlement, and more.
- Supervise and support junior engineers and technicians in field and reporting tasks.
- Cook up with clients, contractors, and subconsultants to ensure smooth project execution.
- Provide AutoCAD drafting support for figures, boring logs, and site plans.
- Aid with proposal development, project planning, and technical presentations.
- Support internal QA/QC procedures and mentor junior staff toward technical excellence.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience, including field oversight and reporting.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., LPILE, SLIDE, Settle3, gINT) and AutoCAD.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be comfortable working with clients and managing teams.
- Solid understanding of ASTM, FDOT, and AASHTO standards and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, mentor staff, and ensure technical quality.
Physical & Field Requirements
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varied weather conditions.
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs, walk on uneven terrain, and perform occasional manual field tasks.
- Willingness to travel for site visits, often with overnight stays.
- Clean driving record required (company vehicle provided when applicable).
