Job Description

Perform and/or oversee geotechnical engineering design and construction support activities for transportation and heavy civil infrastructure projects, in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements (including AASHTO, FHWA, ASTM, and State DOT criteria).

Perform and/or review geotechnical investigation programs, including soil borings, in-situ testing, laboratory testing, and interpretation of subsurface conditions.

Serve as Engineer of Record for geotechnical design packages, sign and seal plans in accordance with professional licensure requirements.

Preform and/or review geotechnical reports, design calculations, drawings, technical memoranda, and specifications.

Provide technical input and design support in areas such as: Shallow and deep foundations, Retaining walls and MSE walls, Slopes, embankments, and earthworks, Excavation support systems, Ground improvement techniques.

Review design assumptions, geotechnical parameters, and construction methodologies, proposing optimized and constructible solutions where appropriate.

Review contractor submittals, including shop drawings, work method statements, RFIs, and NCRs, providing timely technical responses.

Provide technical assistance during construction, including site visits, field inspections, monitoring activities, and resolution of field-related geotechnical issues.

Coverage of interdisciplinary alignment with structural, roadway, drainage, and construction internal and external teams.

Support risk identification and mitigation related to subsurface conditions and construction staging.

Coverage of coordination and supervision of specialty geotechnical subcontractors, testing agencies, and consultants.

Perform and present technical recommendations to project management, clients, and approving authorities.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of internal geotechnical design methodologies, standards, and tools.

Aid in the preparation of tender technical proposals and fee estimates, as required.

Carry out other duties as assigned to support project and business needs.

Requirements

All in close coordination with ACCIONA Engineering back office in Spain.

Required Skills And Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required (preferably in GA, NC, TN and LA) with ability to obtain licensure through reciprocity in other states within a defined timeframe. PE California is an asset.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience, preferably on: Transportation and heavy civil infrastructure projects, Design-build or PPP delivery environments, Projects involving complex subsurface conditions, Demonstrated experience in geotechnical design, construction support, and field problem-solving, Proven ability to prepare, review, and check technical reports, design calculations, and recommendations, Familiarity with geotechnical instrumentation, monitoring programs, and interpretation of performance data, Experience supporting Engineer of Record activities or delegated review authority, Knowledge of State DOT requirements (GDOT experience considered an asset).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic construction environment and adapt to evolving project conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake short- or long-term site or client office assignments within the U.S., as required.
