About the role

Under general supervision, the Geotechnical Engineer I collaborates with senior engineering staff and CAD technicians to produce design submittals for deep foundation and ground improvement systems to be constructed by Michels Construction. Design deliverables include drawings and supporting calculations developed using geotechnical and structural engineering principles, analytical methods, and state-of-the-art computer modeling software. Typical design scopes may encompass rigid inclusions, aggregate piers, soil mixing, compaction grouting, chemical grouting, and dynamic compaction, with occasional support for deep foundation or other geostructural systems.

Michels’ project portfolio spans commercial buildings, highways and bridges, industrial facilities, civil infrastructure, marine structures, and military facilities of all sizes. As a design engineer, you will contribute to preliminary engineering during bid phases and perform QA/QC reviews during production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design submittals for deep foundation and ground improvement systems
  • Prepare drawings and supporting calculations using geotechnical and structural engineering principles
  • Apply analytical methods and state-of-the-art computer modeling software
  • Assist with designs for deep foundations and other geostructural systems as needed
  • Participate in preliminary engineering tasks during bid-time
  • Conduct QA/QC reviews during production phases

What It Takes

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural or geotechnical engineering
  • 0–3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficiency with MS Excel and Mathcad
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team

Preferred: Professional Engineer (PE) certification

Pay

Expected Salary Range: $69,000 USD – $92,000 USD (actual pay will be adjusted based on skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors permitted by law).
