Geotechnical Engineer I

About the role

Under general supervision, the Geotechnical Engineer I collaborates with senior engineering staff and CAD technicians to develop design submittals for deep foundation and ground improvement systems for Michels Construction. Design submittals include drawings and supporting calculations using geotechnical and structural engineering principles, analytical methods, and state-of-the-art computer modeling software. Types of design may include, but are not limited to, rigid inclusions, aggregate piers, soil mixing, compaction grouting, chemical grouting, and dynamic compaction. Occasional assistance with deep foundation or other geostructural system designs may also be required.

Responsibilities

• Develop design submittals for deep foundation and ground improvement systems
• Prepare drawings and supporting calculations using engineering principles and software
• Assist with preliminary engineering during bid phases for prospective projects
• Perform QA/QC review during production phases

What It Takes

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in structural or geotechnical engineering
• 0–3 years of related experience or equivalent combination
• Proficiency with MS Excel and Mathcad
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

Preferred

• Professional Engineer (PE) certification
