Geotechnical Engineer

The Project Mace, as part of MPA delivery partner joint venture of Mace-Parsons-Arcadis, have been selected as the Gateway Development Commission’s partners of choice to support the GDC across the Gateway Program in New York, inclusive of the Hudson Tunnel Project. The busiest rail connection between New York, New Jersey, and the Northeast Corridor, the Hudson Tunnel Project will improve capacity, reliability, and resiliency of commuter and intercity rail transit serving 800,000 daily passengers from Washington, D.C. to New York and New England. A milestone project supported by the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the project is slated to receive nearly $12 billion in federal funding, the largest investment in a mass transit project in modern history.

Responsibilities

• Assist with overseeing geotechnical subsurface investigations including preparing boring logs, conducting in-situ tests and collecting field records
• Assist with site supervision of construction activities such as pile foundation construction, ground improvement, compaction, excavation and geotechnical monitoring activities
• Monitor and document daily construction activities related to geotechnical and foundation construction efforts and preparing daily field reports
• Assist with preparation and review Geotechnical Data Reports, Geotechnical Baseline Reports, and foundation design reports
• Assist with the review of design and construction documents, including RFIs, submittals, and change orders
• Assist with performing geotechnical design for underground structures and foundations in soils and rock
• Assist with ground characterization based on the subsurface geotechnical data and preparing geotechnical subsurface profiles
• Assist with performing and reviewing geotechnical modeling of deep foundations, excavation support systems, ground improvement using commercially available geotechnical programs
• Perform slope stability and seepage analyses
• Perform liquefaction and seismic site class evaluations
• Assist with performing support of excavation design in soil and rock formations
• Assist with preparing and reviewing design calculations and engineering reports
• Participate in meetings and assist with the preparation of technical reports
• Familiarity with CADD and assist with preparing drawings

Requirements

• 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering with adequate course work in geotechnical engineering to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil and rock mechanics and testing, and construction methods (a Master's degree in geotechnical engineering is preferred)
• 5–10 years of related work experience preferably in northern New Jersey/NYC area
• EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification (a Professional Engineer registration in State of New Jersey or ability to obtain PE registration is preferred)
• Familiarity with commercially available geotechnical programs for design of deep and shallow foundations, support of excavation systems and slope stability such as LPILE, GROUP, FB-MultiPier, Slope-W, Seep-W, DeepEx, Plaxis, Settle3D, etc.
• Familiarity with commonly used geotechnical manuals and publications
• Familiarity with AASHTO, NJDOT and Amtrak Standards
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Pay

The estimated starting salary for this position is $150k. Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills and qualifications.
