The History Department at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications and expressions of interest from qualified candidates for appointment as the inaugural George and Bernice Wyss Phillipp Professor of History. Endowed professorships are among the highest honors at the College.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an active research agenda and internationally significant academic profile
• Design interdisciplinary courses
• Mentor students across programs
• Broaden the curriculum in the history of science and/or medicine within the liberal arts by building bridges across disciplines
• Take full part in College and departmental service obligations

Qualifications

The Wyss Phillipp Professor will have the academic qualifications for appointment as a tenured full professor in the Department of History at the College of the Holy Cross. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, including as illustrated by their use of evidence-based teaching strategies and course designs to create classroom environments where all students have a sense of belonging, are valued, and can flourish to reach their full potential.

Benefits

The academic year base salary range for appointments beginning in August 2027 is between $165,000 and $172,000. A dedicated research and professional development account is associated with the Professorship.

Schedule

The teaching load for this position is 3 courses per year.
