Assistant Professor of History (World)

Position Summary

The Tougaloo College Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in World History with a specialization in African, European, or Latin American history, to begin fall 2026. Candidates whose research examines social justice and/or social movements in a global context are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in history at the time of appointment, but candidates who are ABD and on track to complete their degree in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026 will be given consideration.

Duties

• Conducting examinations
• Grading student work
• Advising student academic progress
• Keeping accurate records of student performance
• Attending departmental and campus-wide meetings
• Participating in campus activities and committees

Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

• A Ph.D. in history (ABD candidates who will have degree completed in fall 2025 or spring 2026)
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and from underrepresented communities
