Geology Technician
About the role
The Geology Technician reports to the Geology Manager, and the primary role is to prepare and process drill cores within the Pogo Geology department. Duties include:
- Lift and load core boxes (up to 50 lbs) onto core logging table.
- Wash, process, and photograph core boxes.
- Measure and record recovery data of rock using iPad and computer.
- Sampling, and packaging samples for transportation under the direct guidance of geologists.
- General maintenance and daily housekeeping as directed.
- Equipment Used: Zoom Boom telehandler, pallet jack, digital camera, rock saw, computer workstation, iPad tablet, truck and ATV.
- Transportation and moving of palletized core boxes to Core Processing Facility.
Responsibilities
- Work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Work in confined spaces and tight corridors, and outdoors in the Alaskan wilderness under extreme heat and cold with wildlife in area (bears, wolves, moose).
- Work in a team with a high regard for quality and environmental concerns and with a strong commitment to safety and safe production.
- Work around helicopters.
- Take direction from geologists and execute tasks to standard with little to no supervision.
- Be proficient in MS Office, and accurately collect measurements of core and enter data into Excel.
- Operate heavy equipment.
- Maintain or exceed best industry practice in all geological and environmental tasks.
- Adapt to improved procedures and practices.
Requirements
- First Aid Certificate desirable.
- Awareness of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).

Pay
Negotiable based on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Working a 2 weeks on, 1 week off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite.
Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms.
Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi.
The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
