About the Company

We are a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing precious metals producer with seven wholly-owned operations: the New Afton gold-copper mine in British Columbia, Canada; the Rainy River gold-silver mine in Ontario, Canada; the Las Chispas silver-gold mine in Sonora, Mexico; the Palmarejo gold-silver mine in Chihuahua, Mexico; the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada; the Kensington gold mine in Alaska; and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine is an underground, hard-rock gold mine with associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. The mine is accessed via company transportation, including bus rides and a boat ride through Lynn Canal. Coeur Alaska supports the local community through education, workforce development, environmental stewardship, arts, culture, and nonprofit initiatives. Approximately 400 employees operate the Kensington mine, prioritizing safety, teamwork, and career growth.

About the Role

The Geological Technician will report to the Senior Exploration Geologist and is responsible for duties related to the storage, organization, and optimization of core samples. This position follows a schedule of 15 days on at the mine site (accessible only through company transportation) and 13 days off.

Responsibilities

• Stop work for safety concerns and abide by safety best practices, policies, and procedures.
• Undertake sample handling in the core yard.
• Organize core sample transfer to the mine lab.
• Prepare and load core sample shipments and associated paperwork for transfer to outside labs.
• Prepare and maintain records of assay lab submittal sheets and shipment transfer records.
• Follow core sawing requirements for exploration drill holes, as directed by supervisor.
• Assist with sample storage efforts.
• Work twelve (12) hours per day, fifteen (15) days on / thirteen (13) days off at the camp during shift rotation.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

• Excellent organizational and communication skills.

• Ability to get along with diverse personalities; tactful, mature, and flexible in a remote camp setting.
• Experience with acQuire Database (helpful but not essential).
• Preference given to Alaska residents.

Physical Demands

• Work outdoors in a range of environmental conditions, including rain, snow, ice, wind, cold temperatures, and limited daylight.
• Frequent standing and walking on uneven surfaces, both on the surface and underground.
• Climbing stairs, ladders, and escapeways.
• Lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds often and up to 70 pounds occasionally; pushing and pulling equipment or materials up to 50 pounds; bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including respiratory protection when applicable, and work in varying environmental conditions.
• Participation in emergency response and evacuation procedures.

Schedule

• 15 days on / 13 days off.
• 12-hour workdays during the on-shift rotation.
• Position is located at the camp during shift rotation.

Mine Site Information

The Kensington Mine is located in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, approximately 45 miles outside of Juneau, Alaska. Transportation to and from the mine site occurs twice daily (morning and afternoon) and takes approximately 1.5 hours each way. Employees board a bus in Juneau to Yankee Cove dock (~30 minutes), then a boat (~45 minutes), then another bus to the camp (~15 minutes).

Food and housing are provided on-site. Rooms are dormitory-style with two twin beds, a TV, and storage for personal belongings.
