About the role

The Genetics Lab Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the Genetic Laboratory Department, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements. This role supervises, trains, and ensures the competency of personnel, performs new test validations, and conducts routine genetic tests as needed. The supervisor assists in troubleshooting issues with tests, instruments, and sample delivery, reviews test performance, and maintains quality control and instrument records.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate daily testing and maintenance activities for the Genetics staff.
  • Monitor daily testing and provide backup for molecular procedures, including Plasma Isolation, DNA or cfDNA extraction, PCR techniques, PCR cleanup, Barcoding, Dilutions, and Next Generation Sequencing.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and quality assurance standards, with a strong focus on patient safety.
  • Mentor and evaluate Genetic personnel, demonstrating strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Oversee the maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, maintaining detailed records of certifications, calibrations, and repairs.
  • Schedule routine preventative maintenance for equipment.
  • Order and maintain laboratory inventory, including lot-to-lot testing records.
  • Review and verify genetic testing procedures, results, and documentation for accuracy.
  • Participate in inspections and audits by regulatory agencies and prepare for CAP and other inspections.
  • Perform required compliance tasks and participate in other projects as needed.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the Genetics department.
  • Attend staff meetings, complete special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Molecular Techniques.
  • ASCP or equivalent certification in Molecular Pathology required.
  • Florida State Licensure is not required.
  • Leadership and team management skills.
  • Basic computer and Laboratory Information System (LIS) skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance.

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.

Pay

Minimum USD $85,000.00/year. Maximum USD $109,300.00/year.
