Supervisor – Cytogenetics Lab

About the role

As a Supervisor – Cytogenetics Lab at BayCare, you will provide operational and technical leadership for the cytogenetics laboratory. You will oversee staff performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance, coordinate workflow for karyotyping, FISH, and microarray testing, troubleshoot technical issues, manage inventory, write and maintain lab procedures, perform assay validations, review complex cases, consult with genetic counselors, pathologists, and clinicians, hire, train, and mentor technologists, schedule staff, conduct evaluations, maintain inspection readiness, and ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state regulations. You will also drive continuous process improvement and innovation, and perform bench work as needed and assist with operational tasks.

Responsibilities

• Provide operational and technical leadership for the cytogenetics laboratory
• Oversee staff performance, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance
• Coordinate workflow for karyotyping, FISH, and microarray testing
• Troubleshoot technical issues and manage inventory
• Write and maintain lab procedures and perform assay validations
• Review complex cases for accuracy and prepare reports using ISCN nomenclature
• Consult with genetic counselors, pathologists, and clinicians to ensure appropriate testing
• Hire, train, and mentor technologists; schedule staff and conduct evaluations
• Maintain inspection readiness and compliance with CLIA, CAP, and state regulations
• Drive continuous process improvement and innovation
• Perform bench work as needed and assist with operational tasks

Requirements

• Cytogenetics experience required

Qualifications

• Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field

Skills

• ASCP Certification in Cytogenetics
• Florida Cytogenetics Lab Supervisor License
