Genetic Counselor I/II/III

Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the liaison for clients.
  • Evaluate the risk for genetic or medical conditions and diseases based on medical histories.
  • Coordinate genetic laboratory tests and other diagnostic studies as needed.
  • Integrate genetic test results with medical histories to explain clinical implications.
  • Evaluate a client's response to genetic conditions and provide guidance.
  • Identify and utilize community resources for medical, educational, financial, and psychosocial support.
  • Provide medical, genetic, and counseling information to clients.

Core Skills

  • Provide basic genetic counseling services.
  • Aid in the implementation of genetics services by faculty and other health care professionals.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with current literature and critically evaluate information.
  • Supervise students at the University level, residents, and fellows.
  • Attend divisional or organizational meetings such as journal clubs, case conferences, or others.
  • Perform basic genetic counseling and provide community outreach.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in related field.
  • May require clinical license, certification, or training.

Education

  • Provide supervision under the direction of a supervisor mentor for students at the University level, residents, and fellows.

Service

  • Assemble and provide educational materials to individuals or organizations in the community.
  • Attend divisional meetings and provide educational outreach at community events.
