Geneseo Site Coordinator (After School Program)

About the role

This position is a supervisory role serving children ages 5–12 in an after-school setting. We are looking for applicants who are organized, have an upbeat personality, love working with children of various ages, and have a desire to be a positive role model for our youth.

This is a part-time position that averages 25–30 hours/week, including paid at-home planning hours. The position is traditionally held after the school day at the Geneseo Elementary School and requires availability to work until the end of June.

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the Youth Development Director, Site Coordinators will provide direction to children, plan program curriculum, oversee program staff, complete all OCFS required drills and inspections, and ensure the overall safety and well-being of children in the program.

• Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
• Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans.
• Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Conducts family conferences, and maintains positive relationships and effective communication with families.
• Engages families as volunteers.
• Maintains program site and equipment.
• Maintains required program records.
• Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training.
• Works with the staff team to plan and implement activities.
• Provides direct leadership to the assigned group(s) and maintains constant visual contact with all assigned children.
• Participates in daily activities and aids the children in completing tasks, including land and water-based activities.
• Assists in assessing child abilities and developmental stages.
• Builds enthusiasm for activities and programs.
• Completes required documentation regarding attendance, health and wellness, sign-in and sign-out, and other items as assigned.
• Notifies families if children are not in attendance.
• Keeps the program areas neat and organized.
• Follows all safety procedures.
• Follows all regulating agency and YMCA child care policies, regulations and procedures.
• Maintains friendly, positive and professional relationships with children, families, school & day care partners and other YMCA staff.

Requirements

To be eligible for this position, applicants must meet one of the following categories:

• Two years of college with 18 credits in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age AND at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
• School Age Child Care Credential or other Office recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age AND at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
• New York State Children's Program Administrator credential AND two years direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, AND at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.
• Associate degree in Child Development, Elementary Education, Physical Education, Recreation or a related field AND two years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age AND at least one year in a supervisory capacity in a child care program or related field of work.

Additional requirements include:

• At least 18 years of age to work in Prime Time and Child watch.
• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and New Employee Orientation and Child Abuse prevention training within 60 days of hire date.
• Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
• Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
• Previous experience with diverse populations.
• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet educational and experience qualifications established by state law and have School Age Child Care Clearance per NYS regulations as required.

Skills

Applicants should have the ability to plan, lead and participate in activities, as well as vision, hearing, speech and movement abilities in order to provide safe supervision of children at all times.

Schedule

Position dates are from September through June, in accordance with the Elementary School District Calendar, with supplemental summer work available through Summer Camp and/or Summer Recreation.

Position shifts are Monday-Friday, 2:00pm-6pm, with availability for staff meetings/trainings scheduled in advance.
