About the Role

The Technical Field Service Representative I provides on-site repair, preventive maintenance, and assistance with installation for generators. This position requires up to 50% travel.

Responsibilities

  • Perform technical skills including mechanical, electrical, troubleshooting, and repair of generators.
  • Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during normal working hours, after-hours, weekends, and holidays as directed.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance service and/or repairs of generators.
  • Read and interpret operational manuals, electrical schematics, universal generator literature, and work orders to perform required maintenance and/or repairs.
  • Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report unusual situations to the service manager in a timely manner.
  • Stay current on National Fire Protection Association and State regulations for Emergency Power Supply Systems.
  • Create reports for all work performed in FieldServio and communicate findings via phone calls, emails, and in-person communication.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma.
  • Valid Driver License.
  • 1 year of mechanical experience.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design, AC and DC circuitry, power generation, wiring schematics, and connection diagrams.
  • Working knowledge of engine maintenance and troubleshooting of natural gas fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of power generation, including light towers, pumps, and heating products.
  • Working knowledge of diesel or gaseous engines.
  • Moderate troubleshooting skills, ability to make independent decisions, and work with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of transfer switch operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Generac certification in air-cooled and protector series courses.
  • Ability to work and communicate well with others.
  • Ability to provide detailed reports within 24 hours.
  • Ability to manage and respond to emails, texts, and phone calls in a safe and timely manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2–3 years of industrial experience.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to walk, stoop, crouch, bend, and reach above shoulders.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Work in typical manufacturing environment conditions, including seasonal temperature variations and occasional exposure to fumes or byproducts.
  • Comply with assigned location PPE requirements (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, clothing, shields, closed-toed shoes).
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, snow, and ice.
  • May be required to obtain a DOT Medical Card and drive a heavy-duty truck daily.
